Setting up Presto!Mail and Presto!Links for NETCOM

If you already subscribe and use NETCOM, you can use your same account with Presto!Mail and Presto!Links. Go to "If you already have an account" for instructions. If you do not have a NETCOM account and you want to subscribe, go to "Subscribe to NETCOM".

If you already have an account

If you already have a NETCOM account, setting up your Magic Cap communicator requires only that you know your NETCOM user name, password, and local access phone number. First, install the Presto!Mail and Presto!Links packages onto your Magic Cap communicator. Follow the instructions included with the Presto!Mail and Presto!Links software. Next, follow the instructions below.

  1. Write down the information you need.

If you do not know your local access phone number, you can find it using the Windows NETCOM Netcruiser application. Go to the Settings drop down menu item and select Phone Number. This is the phone number Netcruiser uses to dial into the NETCOM service.

Now that you have the information written down, you are ready to configure Presto!Mail and Presto!Links on your Magic Cap communicator.

  2. Go Downtown and touch the Presto!Diner building.

  3. In the Diner touch the Menu.

  4. Touch the new button to add an Internet Service Provider.

    The Internet Setup screen appears.

  5. Touch the Internet Service Provider button and then select NETCOM.

Once you choose NETCOM, several of the setup fields are automatically filled in for you.

  6. Touch the empty field: PPP Login and then enter #YourLoginName. For example, enter #Joesmith or #Meganjones.

Be sure to enter the # symbol before your log-in name. This is the token that tells NETCOM that you are using PPP.

  7. Touch the empty field: Password and then enter your password.

  8. Touch the empty field: Phone Number and then enter your local access phone number for NETCOM.

You can determine your local access number for NETCOM by going to WWW.Netcom.com and clicking on the Frequently asked Questions (FAQ) link.

  9. If you have a different log-in name and password for your mail, you can edit them at this time using the Mail Login and Password fields.

If you don't know, don't change them.

  10. You can change the default Web site by typing in the Default WWW URL field.

It will default to General Magic's Web site if you do not change it.

  11. When you have completed adding or changing the configuration fields, touch the add button.

That completes the configuration. You can now browse the Web or check your NETCOM mailbox.

Subscribe to NETCOM

Follow these steps to subscribe to NETCOM and set up your account. You will need to have the credit card that you want to bill against, and your preferred log-in name and password. Your password should be at least 8 characters long.

With this information, you are ready to setup your Magic Cap communicator. Follow steps 2 through 11 on the previous pages.
