Highlights:
A comprehensive toolset for Magic Cap applications development.
Background:
Founded in 1986, Metrowerks develops, markets and supports a complete line of Macintosh-hosted computer language products building Magic Cap, Mac OS, Windows 95, Windows NT, and Be OS applications.
Metrowerks' CodeWarrior development tools provide commercial software developers with several competitive advantages, notably time-to-market, by decreasing the time required for the program-compile-debug-test cycle. At the product core are compilers that translate source code into machine code at very high speeds, eliminating downtime for programmers. To date, an estimated 80% of PowerMac native applications were created with CodeWarrior.
Providing full support for C/C++, Object Pascal and Java under one universal Integrated Developing Environment (IDE), Metrowerks' CodeWarrior products have been very well received by the industry, with CodeWarrior winning eight major awards including the prestigious World Class Award from MacWorld in January 1996 and the Award of Excellence from BYTE magazine in 1994. The company has offices in the United States and Canada, and its products are used by more than 45,000 registered users in 70 countries.
Application:
Metrowerks and General Magic formed an alliance in March 1995 to develop CodeWarrior Magic, a Macintosh-hosted toolkit that allows users to develop and debug Magic Cap applications on a Macintosh. "Metrowerks is intent on making CodeWarrior on Macintosh the preferred host development environment for mobile computing applications," said Greg Galanos, president and CEO of Metrowerks Inc. "We expand the development opportunities for CodeWarrior customers by offering a comprehensive toolset for Magic Cap applications development that takes advantage of an easy-to-use development environment."
According to Jean Belanger, chairman of Metrowerks, Magic Cap's innovative design holds a promising future as a standard for communicating platforms. "General Magic is an industry leader in the development of PDA technology with Magic Cap. General Magic was also the first company to adopt industry-standard tools such as CodeWarrior to support development for the platform." said Belanger.
Benefits:
- Full Magic Cap support in the Integrated Development Environment.
- Mac-hosted, source-level debugger for Magic Cap -- Telebug Interface Box and serial cable debugging.
