I wonder if the "Pocket Quicken" package can be beamed from a PIC1000 to a PIC2000. I work for "The Good Guys!" an audio/video retailer on the West Coast and I just purchased my PIC2000. The Newton130 does seem like an awesome device, I don't have to pay for PIC for 1 year. And I don't feel bad since I've gotten used to using it and have downloaded all the shareware that I can use. We're selling the PIC1000 for $249.94 including the Magic Exchange program for MAC or PC, the telephone headset accessory, and the Aha! Inkwriter program. The PIC2000 sells for $699.99 including the Presto Links/Presto Mail program, Magic Exchange for PC, and the Aha! Inkwriter program. If you have to deal with a manufacturer with a problem, do not deal with them over the phone on an issue like yours. It seems like you have done your homework, and you have documentation to back up your claim. If so, you must write a professional business letter to the head of the division who handles Magic Link products on the sales side of the organization. Include all of your documentation and pledge your support to Sony with all of your previous purchases. If you really want a new unit, write the President of Sony US consumer electronics. Always copy to the person you spoke to in customer service for accountability within the organization. I have found this to work for a lot of consumers in the eighteen years I've been in the business. Hope it works! And don't give up on Sony! Tony Ventura "An addicted Magic Link user"

If you have a unix shell account that you want to access strictly for e-mail, you want Active Paper's Presto!Mail 1.0. See specs at (http://www.apix.com). The price comparison is good too, with RRs emulator at $125.US and P!Mail at around $50.00. P!Mail accesses the account for you and downloads the mail. If the only mail access you have is through Pine, and/or you want to control or give commands at the unix command prompt, P!Mail is not your solution.

I use both Presto and RR's TE as well as CujoTerm and Cujochat and find all four useful for different purposes. At 06:26 PM 11/3/96 +0000, you wrote: >Thomas Rusnock writes: >> I'll second that! [This message may have contained graphics created by a Magic Cap device on America Online.] Dear MAGICCAP List, When using cujoterm, is there a way to set space settings so that the screen won't advance down too far? Sometimes, when accessing bbs, it's imposible for me to enter the password because the screen advances too much, or sometimes the request for ID repeats, making it impossible for me to sign on. Anyone else experience this? Btw...I'm glad to be able to have this program. Better than forking over over $100 for RiverRun -Jacqueline

I had a reciept, I did not send it in but told them if they wanted it I would fax it immediately. They did not seem to care. The original tech was supper uncooperative so I asked for her supervisor. He was a little more cooperative but no more help. It apears that the problem is with someone they will not let me talk to. And in case their was any debate over whether the 1k is still being made, the answer is no. The CS rep = was trying to cut me a deal on a new or referbished 1k, but they do not exist at Sony. It is for this reason that I feel the stone walling is comming from someone who does not want to speak with me. Personally I think this was a ploy to get me to buy a 2k, which I was considering up until this incident. Thats about $100 less than what I paid for the same package here when I originally bought my ML. I already own Presto!Mail/Links, MXExchange for PC and Aha!InkWriter (a program I will very much miss is I go with a MP130). That is one of the main reasons that I would like to stay with a MC platform and praying that the Mitsubishi device is affordable and worthwhile. >The PIC2000 sells for $699.99 including the Presto Links/Presto Mail >program, Magic Exchange for PC, and the Aha! I told the support guys that I would buy a Newton before buying another = SML and they practically gave the the phone number to MacZone. They had no solution for me other than paying $400.00 and that was that. If I didn't like it, I was clearly encouraged to buy the MP130 I subsequently looked at. Give up on Sony? Try the other way arround. This is truely a = company that could care less, and the faster I can get rid of them the quicker I can get on with my life. If Sony would have only done what was right, I would still be encouraging my friends to buy them for themselves. Hello all! Presto!Mail 1.0 accesses mail from UNIX accounts, correct? Is there a Presto!Mail product that can access mail from a VAX account? No, it doesn't have PPP...it's just a VAX shell account? Any dice? Thanks --Josh

Subject: Re: Interest in New Fonts for MagicCap?
I tried creating a new package that added a font. It has some severe trade-offs due to some limitations within Magic Cap available today (1.0 and 1.5). Basically there is no provision to handle fonts that have been added by a package and then removed once they are in use by other parts of the system. Here is the scenario: 1) add package containing new font. It installs font into Magic Cap for use by other packages. 2) New font used in email and note book telecards. 3) Decide to remove font package. Accessing the email or note book telecards with the missing font creates cleanups. The easy solution is to install the font into main memory permanently. This means you can never reclaim the main memory space used by the font without cold booting your device. Admittedly this was much more painful when personalink was around. Make up text coupons of your user name and password and you can quickly drop them when you see the prompts.

Live4Words writes: > Dear MAGICCAP List, > How do you make text coupons? Hold down the option button and tap the keyboard icon. This brings up the coupon mode keyboard. You type out whatever you want on the coupon, and when you are finished you drag the coupon away from the keyboard, and the keyboard disappears. You can then drag the coupon to wherever you want it, or to the totebag for safekeeping until you are ready for it. For an eyeopening lesson on the coupon maker, go downtown, make a text coupon with the word parade on it, and drop the coupon on the street.
