Subject: Re: IRC Help
Kevin, I used mIRC for quite awhile until switching to PIRCH32 (32-bit app for Win95), so maybe I can assist. First, I knew your name because in addition to your nickname, your connection address is also available and is often displayed when a person joins or leaves a channel. This was something like kevin_fr@blahblah.com so I ventured to guess it was you. :) As for the long delay before a response happened, that's probably just IRC for ya. IRC is a pretty big, clunky, overloaded mess, and lag-times are common. Because of the countless servers running, supporting any particular IRC network (EFnet, Undernet, DALnet, etc.), you basically just have to surf around until you find a server that has low lag to the people/channel you wish to converse with/in. Just as an example, very shortly after you 'slapped Josh around with a large trout' (a default macro-button in mIRC for those who aren't familiar :) I responded to your original 'Hello' message. I also sent several others, but probably due to lag, you never saw them. The bottom line in your case was that everything seemed to be working pretty normaly. The only suggestion would be to find a server with lesser lag. I often use irc.neosoft.net, irc.nol.net and irc.magic.ca to name a few. (Be warned, CujoChatters, that the latter two of these servers require 'identD' running, an IRC feature that CujoChat doesn't support at this time, so you'll get booted from either of those servers with an error message.) Anyone who will be attempting to establish a connection to IRC for the first time tomorrow to attend the BAMCUG simulcast may want to start early, to get the hang of things. I will most likely be active in #magic-cap from noon PDT on, in case anyone has questions, and will be watching incoming Email and the lists closely for anyone unable to get onto IRC for help. :) Regards, Luke Derossi for General Magic, Inc. Here it is : http://www.genmagic.com/Develop/MagicCap/Internet/ On that note, is it possible to change the display area in cujoterm without having to dive into the source of it? - Colby -- When I was younger, I could remember anything, whether it had happened or not; but my faculties are decaying now and soon I shall be so I cannot remember any but the things that never happened. Subject: Keyboard and serial cable connection...
I've been futzing around with a PIC-1000 for the last year or so. I hadn't made much effort to use its full capabilities until recently. I have a keyboard for it and I just got xchange for it. Is there no possible way to have the keyboard and the serial cable hooked up to the magic link? Am I being blindingly stupid? - Colby -- When I was younger, I could remember anything, whether it had happened or not; but my faculties are decaying now and soon I shall be so I cannot remember any but the things that never happened. It'd be nice to easily respond to "ANSWER THIS NOW" e-mail. I think I'd feel less annoyed about this if there was integrated hand writing recognition software. - Colby -- When I was younger, I could remember anything, whether it had happened or not; but my faculties are decaying now and soon I shall be so I cannot remember any but the things that never happened.
