Subject: MCW mail options?
Hi all - As my questions regarding MCW continue, please bear with me. Using Presto! on a communicator allows me to specify if mail should be left on a POP server, or removed. Is there such an option for MCW? It seems to default to "remove". Thanks for any thoughts, C. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Ashley charlesa@netventures.co.uk www.netventures.co.uk ======================================================================

Subject: Presto!Mail/Links Security
Here's something we stumbled across at work today. If you create a PPP Login script to troubleshoot a connection by adding the "debug" command to the end of the script, the entire transaction is recorded to a notebook page as advertised. This is real handy for troubleshooting, but some people aren't aware this feature also prints out your PPP password in the process. Basically, if anyone get hold of your device for 5 mintutes they can make the device divulge your password. You can, of course, turn on the device password feature built into Magic Cap for better protection. Also, Presto!Mail/Links can be configured to prompt you for your password at connect time. -- Bruce Tong Systems Programmer Electronic Vision / Fitne Work: Phone : (614) 592-2511 Fax : (614) 592-2650 mailto:zztong@evi.ev.net http://www.ev.net/fitne Play: mailto:zztong@eurekanet.com http://www.eurekanet.com/~zztong

Subject: Weird Power-Ups
A number of us here have noticed our PIC-2000s like to turn themselves on at strange times. It didn't take long to realize if you left your device connected to a phone line and plugged in to recharge, the phone would wake up the device and then it would stay on. The weird cases are these: * Device plugged into recharge but not plugged into a phone line. No alarms set in the calendar. Why is the device waking up? * (The real strange one) One person's device turns itself right back on when you turn it off. If you hold down the option key when you power it off, it stays off. In all cases, there is lots of different types of software on the machines, so narrowing it down to a specific package will take a while. Anybody else noticed something like these? -- Bruce Tong Systems Programmer Electronic Vision / Fitne Work: Phone : (614) 592-2511 Fax : (614) 592-2650 mailto:zztong@evi.ev.net http://www.ev.net/fitne Play: mailto:zztong@eurekanet.com http://www.eurekanet.com/~zztong

Bruce, I've not heard of the latter two conditions; they're definitely odd ones! For anyone experiencing the first case, where the telephone line is waking up the device and keeping it on forever (when plugged into an external power supply), you can disable this via the check-box found in the 'Power' category in the control panel, which specifies that the inactivity power-off feature be ignored if the device is plugged into an external power source. Charles, To my knowledge, MCW doesn't have a feature akin to Presto!Mail's 'leave mail on server' rule. I will double-check with the MCW team and make sure, though. Has anyone seen the Opti-Max screen on an Envoy? (It's on the 150 and original units can be upgraded). I'm thinking about upgrading and would like any comments from those who have seen it. Thanks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for connecting an Envoy (or other personel communicator/PDA/palmtop) to a digital PBX, specifically a Nortel Meridian? I have heard the a Konexx from Unlimited Systems will work. Has anyone tried this and does anyone know how to contact them? Thanks

Subject: Update of Phoneday patch!
Hi, The following question was asked to David. ------------------------------------------ Hi, David I downloaded your version of Phoneday. I live in Belgium and had some difficulties for using the Magic Cap in Belgium. After I downloaded and installed the patch, I can call phone numbers in Belgium without the incorrect long distends prefix if I tell the Magic Cap I live in the Netherlands. If it is possible to apply the same code fix to Belgium as you did for the Netherlands, in the next update of your patch I would appreciate it. If not, is it possible to receive the source code so I can fix it my self? The normal dialling convention in Belgium is: International dialling from Belgium: 00 + country code + area code + subscriber number International dialling to Belgium: 00 + country code + area code + subscriber number Dialling from one area to the other: 0 + area code + subscriber number Dialling in the same area: subscriber number The area code is one or two digits. ------------------------------------------ In his response, he tells me he no longer works on Magic Cap products. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mr Peter, I regret that I no longer work on Magic Cap products. I'm glad you find that you can use Phoneday to improve your Magic Cap communicator, and I am sorry not to have included an option for Belgium when I added the change for the Netherlands. If you want to make a suggestions for an improved release, I recommend contacting General Magic directly. All best, David >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> My question is: Will there be a update available in the near future? So Luke, Did you ever make these stamps available? If so, where? Are you still taking idea submissions? Eric, Actually I was going to put what I have in along with MagiCalc, but I decided against it, because of the size increase it would have meant. I'll throw them all together in a package of their own, and put them up in the next couple of days. :) Regards, Luke Eric P. Carter wrote: > > So Luke, > > Did you ever make these stamps available? Subject: MC Financial App - Tell Us your Requirements!
Dear Cappers, After several weeks of delay I'd like to get the collaborative engineering project for a Magic Cap financial app back on track. When we last left our heroes they had stumbled into the Requirements Gathering Phase of their misadventure, and had asked the subscribers of several Magic Cap lists if they would post their Desired Features, both basic and fanciful, to comp.os.magic-cap (email: magicdst@brownvm.brown.edu.) And then our heroes went away to travel the lands of Billable Client Engagements and Poorly-Timed Chest Colds; when they returned they were astonished to find that, of all the happy Cappers, not one had posted a Desired Feature. The heroes sat down to think. "They either don't care, or they don't think we're gonna do it," one Hero said. Another suggested this: "Perhaps their all writing their own MC financial apps, and don't want to aid the competition?" The others were all silent for a moment as they pondered this, but then of a sudden shook their heads and said "Naaaaaa" in unison. And then the littlest hero piped up: "Maybe all the Cappers still don't know what we're up to!" That depressed them all terribly, and they all sat there on the rocks of Doubt with their Sony Magic Links in their hands, ripping open and closing their cases' Velcro flaps repeatedly at a dirge-like tempo for the scant relief that its cheerful sound could give them. And there they still sit. Well, all but one. I slipped out under cover of that scratchy Velcro roar to post this plaintive plea: please post your ideas! Make the heroes happy! Increase the odds that your Magic Link 2000 will finally have a financial app - one, I might add, that will be impeccable in design and function. As a token of my sincerity and desperation, I'll make this pledge: if at least five of you send five ideas apiece, I promise to nevermore write long and self-indulgent little missives (such as this) to these lists. And if you *don't*. ... Rod p.s. Project volunteers welcome! Where did our other two go?
