| I totally agree with Steve on this last statement. Why isn't everyone taking
| advantage of all the wonderful multimedia capabilities that Magic Cap offers
| in sending electronic messages? Apart from a few people, like Mark Marshall,
| who recently posted an interesting card with a recording of his voice, the
| rest of us post in plain ASCII.
|
| I assume that, apart from the AOL subscribers, everyone else has the Presto
| package, and thus the ability to post multimedia telecards. This would be the
| first multimedia list on the internet, an idea pursued by many during the
| PersonaLink days, when it was impossible to materialize. Well, now, thanks to
| Presto, it is possible, yet we keep forgeting it.

No, not everyone has Presto, nor is everyone reading all thier mail
through the magic link. I used to be on the list quite a while before
desiding on a MagicLink, and even now that I have it, I'm not going to
use it regularly for mail. I'd be surprised if I'm the only one.

Big chunks of UU mail are not friendly to outsiders and automatic
index generators.

Maybe a comprimise is possible: can't you make a mixed message,
containing ascii text (possible an abstract) and the rest in UU?

/Tommy

I'm really not sure as I did several things. I packed and unpacked
packages and changed some settings (as suggested by my ISP). I have a
local ISP and they were as helpful as they could be. They were not
familiar with the Magic Link so they had me bring it by their office so
they could try to assist me. They (my ISP) even called General Magic's
Tech support while I was in their office. When you stated you deleted
changes were those changes in your settings and did you put those same
settings back?

Thanks!

I've used them for awhile without problems. First, the screen has to be
*very* clean. I use the nylon cloth that comes with Oakley sunglasses- it
also builds up some static. Any dust at all will be trapped and cause
nothing but trouble. I put them on dry, but I know people that use water
and alittle dish soap to smooth out the bubbles. Line it up at one end and
lay it gently on the screen; use your finger down the middle the long way
to seal it down, then work from that line out to the edges to work out the
bubbles. There's always some bubbles, but they seep out within a couple
days. Take your pen and lightly swirl around the whole surface to seal it
down and work out a few more bubbles.

Lastly, I put a coat of lemon pledge on the screen to make it faster. Your
pen shouldn't be scratching it, you might want to check the pen. If you're
leaving trails, you're probably pressing too hard. Mine last several
months with alot of (graffiti) use...

HTH. mark.

supposed to last a month? We'll see. The other thing is, there are little
white smudgy things (very tiny) all over the write right. It doesn't seem

Hi Magicappers,

As long as everyone doesn't start writing only handwritten messages then that
is what happens. The "magic" is encoded and appended after the ascii text or
in an attachment.

I do have a theory about some of the messages where there is no ascii text and
only attachments or appended encoded text. I had seen this when I received a
message sent by someone using radiomail when I collected on my desktop. There
was no ascii text in the main message but there was an attachment with the
message in ascii text. I suspect that something similar might be happening
with people using the new wireless option from Sony yet nothing is getting
through.

Just a theory.
