Dear MAGICCAP List,

I think that MacWarehouse/PC Warehouse had the Magic Xchange for around $35
or so. You have to order it from their catalog. Sorry, but I don't have the
toll free number.

Aha!'s InkWriter is a fun and useful program, but a word to the wise: In
trying to access their technical support by e-mail and by land-line
(10.10.96) I was informed that Aha! had been acquired by Microsoft, and they
were scaling back their operations, and their tech support. The feeling I
got was that a response to my question was not likely, and there was no
mechanism in place right now to help those who own Aha! Inkwriter.

Does anybody know where I can get Magic exchange for the p.c. for a
reasonable price(<$50)? I was supposed to have gotten it for free but Sony
lost my coupon to get it for free and will not cooperate in the slightest
in helping me. I have Presto! Mail and Links which are totally useless to
me and due to this my PIC is useless as well.

Thanks in advance.

Subject: multimedia telecards

--magicmail

Dear Magic,

Steve Hirst writes:

> And drop me a telecard, this place is way ASCII.

I totally agree with Steve on this last statement. Why isn't everyone taking
advantage of all the wonderful multimedia capabilities that Magic Cap offers
in sending electronic messages? Apart from a few people, like Mark Marshall,
who recently posted an interesting card with a recording of his voice, the
rest of us post in plain ASCII.

I assume that, apart from the AOL subscribers, everyone else has the Presto
package, and thus the ability to post multimedia telecards. This would be the
first multimedia list on the internet, an idea pursued by many during the
PersonaLink days, when it was impossible to materialize. Well, now, thanks to
Presto, it is possible, yet we keep forgeting it.

I understand that many of us use their desktop computers to post text only
messages. Hopefully, Magic Cap for Windows will correct the situation by
allowing multimedia capabilities even for a desktop.

Enough said. Here is my graphical contribution

Dear MAGICCAP List,

I have Outfitter's Direct on my SRAM card.

When I do cleanup from the storeroom, why does it erase the latest catalog?
I thought that once it was saved on my card, it would remain.

I've been trying to run Presto on my ML1000 and have a host of problems.
I have contacted General Magic but they could not help even though they
could duplicate my problem.
At first I was unable to retrieve email but could browse the Web. Then I
went through several "solution" steps suggested by General Magics "top
level" folks. Now I can retrieve email but can not browse the Web (after
connecting my screen is blank).

I'm at my "wit's end". I was wondering if anyone has encountered a
similar problem trying to run this package on an 1000.

Well yes and no...there is a catch. The modem card is capable of running
at 14.4, however the AOL client burned in the ROM on the PIC-1000 puts up
an error message saying that that version of the client software is limited
to 2400.

We were able to connect to AOL at 14.4 with the Apex card using the AOL
client in the PIC-2000 ROM. It might work to copy the revised AOL client
software (which supports 14.4) off a PIC-2000 and install it on your
PIC-1000. However, to use it with the Apex card the client would have to
be in memory (if the AOL client & the Apex driver fit in PIC-1000 memory!).

However, other software besides the PIC-1000 AOL should work. I know in
the case of OAG FlightLine, we had to do some fine tuning of the PIC-1000
software to make it run at faster speeds on both the PIC-2000 and the Apex
card.

What you might have to do is decide what software you want to use and then
contact tech support of the developer to see if they've tested the client
software with the Apex card.

However, if I were you, I'd probably stick with 2400 baud for as long as I
could stand it and then trade up to a PIC-2000 when I could afford it. The
Apex card does support the PIC-1000, but just barely.

Well, I got my first set of WriteRights today, and already have some questions. First, I followed the instructions, and installed the first writeright
of my twelve pack. When I write on the screen, the stylus leaves scratch
marks on the write right. A *lot* of scratch marks. These things are supposed to last a month? We'll see. The other thing is, there are little white smudgy things (very tiny) all over the write right. It doesn't seem to
help visibility at all. Also, I have some air bubbles too, which I tried real
hard to prevent. Anyone on the list have some good techniques for WriteRights? (ie., installation, etc.)

Thanks a bunch!

Yeah, it's slow, but not that bad. I generally follow links with the auto
graphics off, and then hit option reload on pages with graphics I want to see,
which is the command to load all graphics on the page. That way I don't have
to wait for anything except for what I really want to see.
