Kevin's method seems to be one way. For myself, I keep separate name cards
for husbands and wives unless I don't know the spouse in which case it is
definately on a post-it stamp along with children.

As for birthdays, aren't these kept in the Log if you use the birthday event
in the datebook? (Yes, I am sure of it.) Unfortunately, the wonderful person
who created the Anniversary Event didn't think to have it added to the log as
well. Maybe for the next version?

Hello again,

Thanks to the guys whos offered help, but your suggestions don't seem to
work. When you file an item or a collection of items the destination
storage is always a package on the shelf. Remember, I want to restore my
namecards back into their BOX (which by default stores all new namecards
you create), and NOT to a new or existing package.

Athanasios.

I have had a PIC-2000 for about 8 months or so now. I am getting really
tired of connecting it to a phone line to collect/send mail. What I am
really interested in would be a wireless solution for the ML (such as the
Megahertz AllPoints...). However when it comes right down to it another
499 for a wireless solution is a bit on the steep side. So I have started
to look at the Envoy as an alternative.

What I am interested in is the features of the two Envoys 100/150 and
which service users prefer (any envoy users out there??). Also I
understand that the Envoy wireless does'nt work with Presto is this
true?? What do people use to get there mail (radiomail??). Does the 100
have 1mb or 2mb RAM???

Also if anyone is interested in selling an envoy I might be
interested....

Athanasios,

I'm a little confused by what you mean by "in their BOX".

When you store any software and/or data on the communicator it has to
physically be stored in either built-in storage (RAM) on a SRAM card
(preinstalled applications & data can be stored in the ROM as well).
However, applications and data still appear spread out throughout Magic Cap
in the name card box, the in box, the hallway, on the main street, etc.

If your name cards are physically stored in the name card package in
built-in storage (RAM) they are still graphically presented in the rolodex
on the desk. For that matter, if you file your name cards on your SRAM
card in 'new items' they still appear graphically in the rolodex on your
desk.

I think you are confusing the physical location of the data with it's
location in the desk metaphor. This is not really your fault because
MagicCap also confuses the difference between physical storage and where
things are placed in the metaphor sometimes. Specifically, filing a letter
in the filing cabinet (received mail) refers to where the data is placed in
the metaphor. But filing a letter on your SRAM card (new items) refers to
where the data is stored physically (it would still remain in the 'in box'
or 'cabinet' in the metaphor).

The bottom line is that name cards are normally physically stored in the
name card package in built-in storage. You just never noticed it before.
They still should appear graphically in the rolodex on your desk. Check it
out and let me know if this isn't the case.

I hope this explanation is helpful. If all else fails you can always call
Sony Tech support at 1-800-55MAGIC for help.

Everything is right except the double memory. The Envoy and the PIC1000
both have one meg of RAM. The Envoy 150 and PIC2000 both have two megs.

Wayne Sanderson writes:

Radiomail most certainly supports rich content, however, it is only
between Envoys (or any MC device with a Radiomail client I suppose).

D'Angelo, Leo writes:

Presto! does not support the wireless transport required on the Envoy.
Radiomail is a service that gives you a mailbox which can be accessed on
various platforms, the Envoy being just one. Mail on the Run is a product
that allows you to mirror LAN based email boxes on MS and CC mail. It is
a bit more complex for obvious reasons.

As far as screen upgrades for Sony done by Motorola, that was an
interesting question. Although it is feasible technically, there are a
number of factors that would make it less than cost effective and we have
no plans to pursue this right now.

Anything else?

A couple more questions...

Can a radio mail account receive mail from the internet??

I understand an envoy 100 can be upgraded to MC 1.5 and have a backlight
screen installed, but can you upgrade from 1 to 2 megs internal???

What are the prices for the 100/150 that some of you have seen???

Thanx,

Subject: Envoy Questions

Well, that's strike 2 for me on this thread, although in my own defense I got
this info out of the back of Pen Computing Magazine, which seems to show the
Magic Link PIC1000 as having 512k workspace memory/512k user accessible
memory, and the Envoy as having 1meg/1meg.

As an aside, is there any way that a non Envoy owner or non RadioMail subscriber can get in on the rich text capabilities of the service? I seem to
remember reading a little about Ardis Personal Messaging Service. Is this a
wireline counterpart to RadioMail, and does it also support richtext content
between MC devices, or is it a pager network?

Hi Paul,

I see what you are saying but I am not making that mistake. I realize
that wherever a name card is stored in physical storage it will always
appear in the Rolodex on the desk.

My problem is with two different kinds of physical storage on the
built-in storage shelf, namely BOXES and PACKAGES. I suspect that the
ML1000 does not have this feature, so if you are using the ML1000 you may
not know what I am talking about.

In any case, boxes have different properties from packages. For instance,
you cannot remove a box from the built-in storage shelf and you cannot
create a new box. You can, however, copy its contents into a new package.
The ML2000 has 5 boxes in its built-in storage (appointments, name cards,
sent mail, received mail, and notebook).

On my shelf I now have the default box labeled "name cards" and a package
labeled "name cards", created by MagicXchange when I tried to restore a
backup of the box. What I want to do is transfer everything from the
package to the box. I know how to do it one item at a time. I suspect
there is no other way.

If the ML1000 does not have the boxes I am talking about, then
MagicXchange is designed only for that, and it now needs to be upgraded
to comply with the new memory management of the ML2000.

Athanasios.

Just a short note to let you know that Spell Finder for the Envoy is now
available via Outfitters Direct.

No, the memory upgrade is not something made available. It's not quite as
simple as slapping in another chip. Memory cards are the solution there.

D'Angelo, Leo writes:

Most definately! The Radiomail mailbox you sign up for becomes the
repository for all your mail no matter the source.

The APM service is a wireless peer to peer scenario where you don't send
messages through extra gateways. It goes from device to device via ARDIS
direct. It does not let you go outside that path (for instance to the
internet), nor does it accept anything but ascii text, no content. It is
more like two-way paging between subscriber devices in a sense.

There are no other wireless mail options besides Radiomail that I know
about that carry MC content. The same wireline apps like AOL and Presto
do this. Hope that answers your question.

What I was curious about is whether a RadioMail account is accessible via
wireline dialup. If the subscriber's device is in a non coverage area (or if
someone had an Envoy and a ML, and copied the RadioMail package to the ML,)
then is the account also accessible via conventional modem connection, or is
it strictly accessible only through wireless?

Out of curiosity, will Motorola continue to make the screen upgrade available
Envoy owners? A recent post stated that they were out of stock. Is this temporary, or is the manufacturing run at an end, and hence the supply? I have been
considering the purchase of an original Envoy, you see, and the screen upgrade
would be a must.
