Victor Carreon wrote: > I interested in finding out how people have used their Magic Link on a > daily basis. Has life been easier? harder? etc Victor My wife, Val, was always asking me to look things up in my BOSS and was pushing me to get her own electronic organizer. I tried to get her, a very picture-oriented graphic designer, to use a BOSS and Wizard but these were complete failures. She just didn't like the interface. Note that Val has her own PC and spends alot of time with Pagemaker, CorelDraw and Photoshop in Win95. We saw the Magic Link at COMDEX last year and ordered 2. We both use it on a daily basis. I'm amazed at the power I keep discovering in the basic system. I also like the flexibility of the name cards and datebook. I can put anything there including notes. Very powerful and useful. Val uses the PIC-2000 as an organizer, and for drawing layouts. She's a wedding consultant and it's great for sketching floor layouts and seating plans. I've setup some forms for her to enter wedding data. It's very impressive to clients. Especially when she let's them sign their name. She also finds it easier to do web surfing when she's relaxing on the sofa or outside on the patio. I like the Presto packages because I do alot on the internet including email. I do alot of traveling by motorcycle and don't bother taking the laptop anymore unless I need to do some real computing. Val made me an organizer case for my birthday that holds the ML, checkbook, cards, notepad and a few other things including ML accessories. It's great. The ML has definitely made life a little easier and more fun. We take our MLs into a resturant to have a good meal and relax and "get organized." It's great to beam name cards and appoitments between MLs. It also draws alot of attention. We send each other notes which forces me to check it each day. Otherwise I get in trouble and am accused of neglect. Complaints: The 14.4 modem is too slow. I get 100+ email/day and downloading via a hotel phone gets expensive. Also, I'd take more notes if it was easier to type. Guess I'm going to look into HR packages. -- Mike Lombrozo San Clemente, CA

Actually, I do occasionally get one of your messages and really like your stationary. It show every thing on one screen, who its from, the subject, and the message. All the advantages of the post card, with far less real estate taken up. So since you have the better mouse trap, maybe the question needs to be, how can all of us gain your functionality rather than making you live within P!M's silly rules. Kevin Fries

Subject: Restoring with MagicXchange
Hello everyone, I am trying to restore a backup of my name cards from the PC to my ML2000. Everything works fine, but I was surprised to find out that the information is restored in a new PACKAGE in built-in storage named "name cards", and not in the name cards BOX, as I expected. I realize that I can transfer each name card to the box seperately by tapping the small icon on the top left of the screen that indicates the package in which the card is stored. Is there a better way to do this, say tranfer them all at once? Athanasios.

I think the reason it is sporadic like that is that I use two different mail packages. Perhaps you use AOL? In that case anytime I send something via my AOL account (without making absolutely sure I havent missed any font changes or stamps...rrr) you would receive the stationary, fonts, etc. While users of Presto!Mail would see the text only (with a message saying AOL had stripped the graphics.) An advantage of AOL. However, I don't want my AOL account. I have been sending everything via Presto!Mail. So now if I forget to clean up my mail before I send it, P!M users can read it fine... graphics, stationary and all, but everyone else just gets a mystery attachment. (P!M users... you know that if this msg appears on stationary, I once again missed some minor detail and Kevin can't even read this.) Steve PS. Joe Solem: Send me your full internet address, I can't dial into AOL while in Hawaii... as we both know there's no local access and I couldn't get your apostrophe trick to work!

I guess that means you should treat them as individuals by objectifying them. Is that PC or not? I can't tell! The modern world is just getting too confusing for me! This handles the family attachment but it doesn't take care of the date problem. (Not _THAT_ date problem!) jps fa bf

As for the new > Envoy it still only has a 2400 internal landline > modem?!?!? So it depends on your wireless needs. The prices on the original Envoys are coming down to $400.US at the moment. They feature twice the memory of the PIC1000s, are OS and screen upgradable, and have 2 pcmcia slots. The only two things I do not like about the Envoy are the NiCad batteries and the fact that Sony's wireless modem link software refuses to function on them.(How about it Sony NTI! You made Magic Spell available to Envoy owners; How about WML?) Motorola's wireless solution isn't all-that, either. The radio modem is 4800 bps, and RadioMail is a closed mail-only network like PersonaLink was, although it is not Telescript based and therefore offers no richtext support for MC devices. RadioMail will probably never offer Presto!Links support. Too bad Motorola doesn't offer to upgrade the radio modem to an internal Ricochet network compatible modem. That would be a killer device.

Besides an occasional plug I post on the list, we have nothing to do with that product. -Paul BTW, we are no longer shipping Spell Finder for the Envoy via PersonaLink for obvious reasons. Very shortly it will be available via Outfitters Direct. Alternatively, we can send it out as an Internet attachment in Magic Xchange format to an e-mail address to people who order it from our 800#. --------------------- Sony New Technologies http://www.sonysoft.com 1-800-739-7337 E-mail: plin@sonysoft.com

The last page will probably contain your word. Simply select and remove it. Steve

There is a book there called "Word Lists". The last entry in the table of contents is "Spelling Words". It is easy to add & delete words from there. BTW, there is a copy of the user documentation for Spell Finder (in HTML) on our web site in the catalog entry for Spell Finder. This documentation is more complete than the 2 pages in the PIC-1000 user's guide. -Paul --------------------- Sony New Technologies http://www.sonysoft.com 1-800-739-7337 E-mail: plin@sonysoft.com

[This message may have contained graphics created by a Magic Cap device on America Online.] Thanks to all the people that sent me Taskmaster. Is there a site that you can send a mail message, and it will return you a package. If not, I know of a way that you can set it up. Using this mailing list, it can be done. 1. Download the package to your ML. 2. Go to the storage room and select the package, so it hops off the shelf. 3. Use the magic lamp and tell it to mail the package to MAGICCAP@BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU. 4. The mail server running the list server program will then catalog the message as is. Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can get a list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX MAGICCAP" command to LISTSERV@BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU. You can then order these files with a "GET MAGICCAP LOGxxxx" command, or using LISTSERV's database search facilities. Send an "INFO DATABASE" command for more information on the latter. 5. We could appoint some one to keep a list of the LOG number of the different shareware, freeware, and demo packages. They could post the list every week or so. As for dates, this one is a cinch. Create a birthday entry in the datebook. Make sure you are in day view, drag the entry to the carpet bag while holding down the option key. Go back to the rolodex and add the item to the namecard. BINGO! Remember though, this is only a copy. So if you are friends with Larry King, do not forget to change both entries for his anniversary when he gets remarried again :-). HTH Kevin Fries

Actually, what I want is my language references on my palmtop. I am a journeyman programmer (though sometimes I feel like the trash collector). I come in to "fix" or "enhance" someone else's work. Often I do not get to pick the language. Therefore, it is difficult at best to keep track of the syntax of every function of every language that I work in. Based on the chatter in the mail group, I am certainly not the only programmer. It is these references that I want, not onetime only reading. Kinda like a collection of quick reference guides. I hope this clarifies my request. Thanks Kevin Fries
