  Dave,

You've probably already tried this, but just in case: power down your
PIC, and take out any cards. Then power up. Hold down option, and
while doing so insert the new RAM card. doing so forces Magic Cap to
default to card formatting instead of trying to recognize it at all.
Perhaps this will circumvent your problem.

It's not right, but it does happen.

Isn't it amusing how these sorts of realizations come up sort of cyclically,
didn't we discuss this a year or so ago and then some time before that as
well?

Mail*Link(r) SMTP Awesome trick too!

Dear O Wise Magicians,
Following Rishi Oswal's lead, i've grown tired of when i want to "format text"
on an incoming message from NetCom using PrestoMail!, having to tap the lamp,
then tap the "format text" icon, and then tapping yes, i've creatively removed
some steps.

1) using the copy tool make a copy of the "format text" icon and set it on
your desk.

2) using Coupon Grabber make an image coupon of any stamp you want (preferably
a small stamp, i used the butterfly found in the stamp drawer) and drag it
over the "format text" icon on your desk to change it to your image of choice.

3) using tinker tool tap the icon you made and deselect "show label" to turn
the text label off.

4) drag the icon to your tote bag and go into a letter in your inbox.

5) place the icon somewhere on the right hand side of your screen (i put mine
between the bottom two icons, the show and file icons).

That's it, option tap the butterfly and it formats the message your viewing at
that time.

I agree 100%! This is what I was hoping for also. Its looks like all
this is not going to happen on the first release. I would still find it
useful to have the name cards and datebook though. Having it this way
would allow for it to be released sooner!

Mail*Link(r) SMTP ML & Compuserve?

Dear Magic Cappers,

Can anyone tell me how to connect my PIC 1000 to Compuserve? I have set
up an account on my Mac, but can't find software anywhere. Their tech
people can't seem to help.

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Presto, internetMCI, PacBell

Greetings,
Has anyone tried to configure the Presto apps for internetMCI or PacBell's
Internet Service? I was never able to get through to the right "tech level"
at MCI. The PacBell tech told me that their service "probably" wouldn't work
with a modem slower than 14.4 (the office 486 Windows machine is even
unacceptable according to him because of the UART chip on it).

Thanks,
Al Salerno

Hello Al,

Yes, I configured Presto!Mail and Presto!Links with the PacBell service and
it worked fine. However, I *am* using a PIC-2000 (with the 14.4 modem), so
I'm not sure if it will work if you're using a PIC-1000. Check out
http://dialup.pacbell.net/help/config.html for all the information you'll
need to set up your Presto! products. (You'll have to hit it using your PBell
account.)

Subject: PCMCIA card formatting...

Hi Magic!

This is really in response to the question of formatting PCMCIA cards
in the ML.

Luke Derossi just sent an email responding to my post about yanking
the battery, explaining the method to get the ML to try to format the
card.
(I deleted it when I wanted to save it....)

I just wanted to point out, that in some cases, I've read that people
could not get their units (non-Magic Links) to format cards and had
to resort to the battery yanking, let-it-drain method. It's worth
doing, instead of throwing away a potentially useful card..especially
if you've paid some bucks for it...

(Just in case, the nice formatting method doesn't work...)

Dear Magic,
Does anyone know how to remove the Bastille patch without resorting to a total
system wipe? I am glad to not see the AT&T references, but it took the AT&T
rules with it, specifically, the rule that sets up a time to automatically
collect email!. I would very much like to have that rule back, But I don't
have a pre-Bastille backup that I can use. Any suggestions would be
appreciated!

thx,

When looking for where to get commerical Magic Cap software, you can always
check our web site at:
        http://www.sonysoft.com/sony/magicsource.html
Where we keep a comprehensive list of all commerical Magic Cap software
available and how to get it.

The CompuServe Companion is distributed by CompuServe (GO CS4MAGIC). I
believe there is a $9.95 download fee.

There is also a good forum on Magic Cap on CompuServe (Go MAGIC) with
downloads, information, etc. run by our good friend Conrado Bondo
(74774,1045).

I am not pleased. I have had almost 6 PDAS up from a boss to a 2000.

I think if you go to the storeroom, you can just pack Bastille up.
Haven't tried that for myself yet.

However, I discovered the same phenomenon about the rules disappearing and
reported it as a bug. At the time there was no other mail service running
on my Envoy. To my delight, the rules reappeared as soon as I signed up
for something. You might want to try that.

A wise decision. Keep a hard copy of your retraction for when the Postal
Inspectors come knocking- which they just might. And be sure to return all
letters bearing money to the sender, preferrably registered, return receipt
requested. Even though you posted a retraction, if you so much as keep one
dollar of it and it was a dollar sent by the postal authorities to see if you
would keep it, they have you and you will have mondo trouble from that point
on. It might cost you a couple of dollars per, but it's cheaper than bail. In
the future, keep in mind that there is no real legal 'system' to make money
without working for it- and at worst, like this, it is more likely to be a
'Get Arrested Quick' scheme.
