Subject: Farcast problems?

I encountered several problemsusing Farcast/PrestoMail. Does somebody know a
solution?

 - I wound up with multiple instances of the Farcast and PrestoDiner
building on MainStreet. I had to unpack the packages in the StoreRoom
multiple times. I guess that FarCast packed things up when it started to run
out of memory? Anyway something went wrong there. How can I remove these
multiple instances?

 - In my inbox I have several messages which I am not able to delete. If you
have read an Farcast message, it prompts the user asking if he wants the
read message to be thrown away. Sometimes this does not work out well. (I am
not able to reproduce it). Then I am left with a message from none dated
none about none. This message can not be trown away. One of these messages
transformed itself to a message reading from "cone/ball image". How can I
get rid of these messages?

thanks,

Arnaud

As a Mac owner I'm more interested in a possible Magic Cap for Mac. Is
this in development?

I will change the Web page to indicate that you can find
it in the Desk accessories drawer. Thanks for the input.

I believe this happened to me. I solved the problem by creating a package
for the "mystery message," packing up the message, and sliding the package
from the storeroom shelf into the trash.

The first problem you mentioned sounds more weird than the second problem.
In the absence of additional info, I would only guess that identical
Farcast and Presto!Mail packages exist in your storeroom. If that is the
case, then the solution becomes a matter of simple deletion. Otherwise,
you may have to reinstall the applications.

Hope this helps...

Scott Doninger,

You seem really bitter about something. What is your problem. Your last
couple of posts have been very cynical. Could you please tone it down a
bit?

Ok I did that.. No effect. so here is what I did. I forced a DEEP
cleanup, i.e. ran the unit out of memory, and that gave me the deep
cleanup option. I went through several hundred messages, and finally
found a few that looked like good candidates. Guess I was lucky,
because when the device was done, the clutter card was gone. But now
my name card file has doubled, i.e. I had TWO entries for each and
every card in my rolodex. Plus if I wanted to step through them, one
by one was ok but I f I wanted to go 'Option tap arrow key' it took me
someplace in the middle of that card stack.

I fixed the duplicate entries by packing up the name card file, then
unpacking it and forcing a cleanup. There are also about 50 entries
that are 'none none none' that can't be deleted. I know the work
around for this of filing all other name cards in another package, I
just get tired of doing it several times a month.

Now my problem is I have a data file containing messages from last
month that somehow got renamed 'untitled' AND when I look at the
messages inside that package all of the 'who' and 'what' data fields
appear blank. When I try to unpack them, I get the warning message
'caution this package contains data that is no longer available on your
device' or something like that. And just think GM and SONY still deny
any memory problems. Any ideas?

I guess this just goes to show you 'don't worry about a cluttered desk'

Record a sound stamp, then put it into the totebag. Option drag from
the totebag copies of it to the desk until you get the option for the
deep cleanup.

Deep clean up.

CAUTION: BACKUP FIRST.

Record a sound stamp and put it in the totebag. Option drag copies of
it to the desk. First you will get a warning message that you device is
NEARLY full, ignore that message, continuing to opt drag from the tote
bag until you get the message that your communicator is full and it
makes a list of things to delete. Choose the cleanup from that screen
and you should get back some memory.

NOTE: you may want to place several sound stamps on a note card and the
Opt drag it from the tote bag if you have a lot of memory.

If you have any stamps etc. on your desk or hallway, or any other kind
of personalization, it is taking up memory but may not show in the
packages.

Subject: Ricochet Cable Update...

Hi Magic!

Well, curious as ever, I called Metricom to find out where my cable
was/is...

(Note: last week I was told that they had arrived and were undergoing
QA testing..should ship if all went well - that was last Monday, I
think.)

Today, am told that the cables did *not* pass muster (for the second
time) and are being sent back, and that they have found out what the
problem is. However, the fix requires retooling to make the proper
cables, and there is no ETA on that. Belkin is the company making
the cables. (Belkin makes a bunch of network-y types of things - I
don't know what their quality is like in general, however.) (Belkin
is *not* Belden of wire fame...)

Love to hear if this story fits with what you've all heard....

(In the meantime, I've daisy chained the standard PC-Ricochet cable
with a null modem and a couple of gender benders and have been able
to surf wirelessly - love it! Just want a simpler cable solution
that doesn't require oodles of time on my part!)

Is there an easy way to CENTER on stationary as if creating a letterhead?
Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Also, if someone could
send me the tinker tool with an explanation on how to install same I would
more than greatly appreciate it. It should be sent to me at rki003@aol.com
and not the above email address as I am still awaiting Presto so as to
enable me to access the Internet from worldnet. Thank you all for reading
