Hello all,

Thanks Joel for your response to my Sprynet connection problems. I've also
heard from Presto support at GM. Although I'm not yet connected, it appears
we're headed in the right direction now.

Sincerely, Jeff Jacobson

Dear Magic,
You're welcome for the help, hopefully it will be corrected soon. You should
feel thankful that you didn't have to go through what I did to fing that out!
Good luck.

Subject: more re Magic Cap for Windows

Hi all -

Does anyone know if MCW supports TCP/IP over ethernet to access PoPmail
(eg. with PrestoMail)? Or is it modem-only networking?

Yup it does (but not with Presto!Mail). It uses Windows/95's MAPI interface to
connect to your ISP. I've used my ethernet card OK to my POP server with no
problems, just installed and it worked!

You mean because PLS is going away?

There are a number of other ways to download freeware.

If you have Magic Xchange, you can download freeware from the Spies site on
the web, AOL or CompuServe.

If you don't have Magic Xchange, you can download freeware from the Spies
site with Presto!Links. You can also convince people to mail you freeware.
Presto!Mail supports Uuencoded freeware.

You can also have people send you freeware as an attachment via Presto!Mail
or AOL.

PS: Check the "Magic on the Web" and "Sources of MC Software" sections of
our web site for more information about where to find freeware out in
cyberspace.

There is a bug in Presto that prevents the mail from being formatted
automatically. It should be fixed in the future.

As for getting disconnected, etc., Netcom is flaky. I sometimes have the
same problem. Also, if the problem persists, you may want to reset your
packages.

is the ISP division for CompuServe, as I understand it. My main reason
for signing up was to have all the local access numbers worldwide. The
price was right, too, at $4.95 a month for 3 hours. But I'm having a
problem connecting and was wondering if anybody out there has been
successful. Using the Sprynet script from the Presto! manual, I'm getting
a "PPP Authentication Failure". The error message goes on to say check
UserID and Password, but I know these are correct, since I can connect
using the Sprynet client for Windows from my desktop. I've tried calling
the GM support line (800 55-MAGIC), and for the first time in over a year
of owning my ML, got really poor service. The fellow was largely
uninformed about the Presto! products. So I sent an email message to the
"prestosupport" email address two weeks ago. No response, not even an
acknowledgement, so I've tried again. At any rate, if anyb!

Use this script:

expect :4 timeout
send "\r\n"
expect ":"
send "SPRY01\r"
expect ":"
send $username "\r"
expect ":"
send $password "\r"
expect "correct" :$o2 "}" :$o1

Also, the internet setup is not always correct. It made the POP and SMTP
server m3.sprynet.com. My account actually uses m4.sprynet.com.

Let me know if you have any problems.

enjoy...
