No flames here....

In a message dated 96-08-11 22:43:55 EDT, you write:

<< IMOO, I think MC for win will be the biggest flop since MS Bob. Great
we sync our communicators, but how many of us have or will still want
MC on a PDA. I will take bets...>>

I seriously doubt that the sole reason for GM to create MCW was so MLs could
be sync'd to pc's. To the best of my knowledge, there is no single app which
provides all the functionality of MC for the average user, along with all the
bells and whistles.

Hey Cappers,

Just wrote a package that can turn your Magic Cap
device into a nine dollar travel clock. Check it
out at:

Subject: Re: NP500 vs. NP530 rechargeable batteries

Just got off the phone with SONY sales. They have confirmed that the NPF530
does indeed work for the ML1000 (which I have). I will be purchasing one
today. I have also had no luck on finding a 500H, and probably spent 2 days of
my life scouring the countryside looking for one - not knowing that I could use
a 520 or a 530 instead. I have run across several 530's in several retail
store's shelves, but didn't know I could use it. SONY sales stated that their
batteries are on backorder. Check your local retailer that carries SONY
camcorder batteries, that's where I have seen them.

Maybe SONY should send e-mail out to this newsgroup when they "enhance" the
capabilities of their product, it would save many of us some time......

By the way, their sales support was GREAT! Friendly, patient, and
knowledgeable. They really stick to their SRP though, therefore, unless you
can't find the accessory some place else - you don't have a reason to go to
them for it.......

I've asked a local Sony retailer if they have a NP500H LiIon battery (I have
the PIC-1000). I was told that NP500 is not manufactured anymore and that
NP530 is intended to be the replacement for NP500 and NP520. It's probably
ok to replace NP500 with NP530 in a camcorder, but I'm not sure about
PIC-1000. Can I use it ?

If someone from Sony is reading this or someone is using NP530 in PIC-1000,
please let me know.

Thanks,

Petr

Subject: WorldNet and MCW

I recently set up AT&T WorldNet on my desktop, to try out the service. Hey,
5 hours a month free. Anyway, after setup was complete, MCW stopped
processing incoming mail. I can still send out mail, and the modem shows me
that it is receiving incoming data when I try to download mail, but MCW
never gets it.
After digging in my sys and ini files and other areas, I found that WorldNet
setup installed a new OLECLI.DLL file in my windows directory in place of
the standard one. Since object linking and embedding has much(if not all!)to
do with the function of MCW, I think this new file is the culprit. If anyone
has both running together successfully, then I am obviously wrong and please
let me know! If not, if you love your MCW, don't try out the free WorldNet
software until a workaround is found for this problem.

Wayne,

The Pre-Release version of MCW is an isoloated communications environment.
It use its own modem files, the comms is all built in and such. Most
probably something else happend around the time that you installed WorldNet.

Please call me at MCW Support 408-774-4041 and I will be glad to help you
fix your problem.

Pretty cool!, for version one... Now for that ever present new feature list:

How about a snooze bar? Touch the screen for a 7 minute break from the
alarm...

Two alarms?

A radio option? Just kidding of course...

There is also one bug... Eventhough I can choose sounds later in the list
than 'alarm' it always says alarm in the sound field... It does play my
chosen sound however.

Subject: PrestoMail 1.5

I'm beginning to use Presto!Mail 1.5.

When I'm sending email to Internet users they received my email as a =
uuencoded enclosure (with all the magic stuff like my address, phones =
etc...). Is this normal behavior for Presto!Mail? How can I send plain =
text (Internet mail)?

Thanks in advance!

Subject: BAMCUG#2 MINUTES

Shawn,
Thanx so much for reporting on BAMCUG meetings. It's a super service to us
all! I am so envious of you ladies and gents on the left coast. I'm here in
Annapolis, MD and so can only experience your excitement vicariously.
>Q: Will their be a new PDA based on Magic Cap OS?

>At least that was the vibrations that I got from them. Good vibrations.

>Q: Is a new version of Magic Cap being worked on?
>A: Yes. Magic Cap V2.0 is being worked on.

Both of these items are _very_ good news indeed! I think we're beginning to
get hints from a number of places that the MC platform is readying the next
round of products (PICs, ScreenPhones, SmartCard factored devices) and
services (farCast, Magic Broker, and the Prestos) and this is another
valuable data point.
Thanx again Shawn, and keep up the good work of informing the rest of us.
