Dear MAGIC CAP,

I am looking to buy a copy of Magic Exchange. Anyone have a copy they
would like to sell cheap?

Also, I would be interested in knowing what mail services others are
switching to now that ATT is discontinuing PersonaLink.

And one more question. Can any PCMCIA memory card be used with a
PIC-1000 or do you have to use Sony's?

Subject: Memory for ML 1000

To follow up on Mr. Brummitt's question,
Does the memory card for the ML1000 have to be 1Mb, or can you utilize larger
cards like the 2Mb, or 4Mb SRAM cards?

I thought I read on a thread last week that someone with a ML1000 is using a
4Mb card.........can anyone verify this one for me?

The Netcom data sheet has an incorrect number on it. It reads as
1-800-NETCOMI.   the correct number is 1-800-NETCOM1 (that is a one, not an
i).

We have corrected this error, and all products should be shipping with the
correst information soon

I have used a 2Meg Grid card in my ML1000 and 2000. Others have
used 4 meg cards and two 2 meg cards (in ML2000). As long as its
SRAM, it should work.

  Bob,

  Yes, larger SRAM cards will work as long as it is SRAM and not
FlashRAM.  It has been some users' experiences that the larger the card,
the more time it takes to swap a card in/out, and also more main memory
is eaten as the card capacity grows.  Keep this in mind when choosing
the SRAM card that right for you.

  Mike,

  Physically Magic Cap devices require any PCMCIA memory card that
adheres to the following guidelines: 1) It must be SRAM, not FlashRAM or
other RAM type, 2) it must conform to CMOS voltage standards.  This
means virtually any SRAM card you can get from a vendor will work in a
Magic Cap device.  However, Sony's Magic Cap devices specifically call
for Sony SRAM PC cards, (and I *think* they also allow HP cards,
supposedly because HP manufactures the Sony cards anyway) simply because
they will not support anything else if you run into trouble with the
card.

  That said, I believe there are a wide variety of brands in use.  To
date, there has only been one publicized issue of partial
non-functionality and that was with old Apple Newton SRAM cards.  It was
a fuzzy issue, mainly because so many people were using them without
trouble; however some were losing data and having problems and it was
determined that this was because the card conforms to the TTL voltage
standard.

I have taken excellent care of my Magic Link. It has been in the waterproof
shock resistant case and has had a screen protector installed since day one.
There is no damage whatsoever. One thing that is missing is the plastic
stylus that comes included with my magic link. I think I lost it in a bamcug
( bay area magic cap users group ) meeting. But there is a Stealth stylus
included in the package. If I find the lost pen, I will include it.
