Dear MagicCap,

Does someone know if Gammon can be played with two players, or is it just
between the user and the ML processor? Also, does it involve a lot of dragging
on the screen? Thanks,

Athanasios.

What is the command anyway? When I try to

I'm not aware of AOLs plans, but I've been in a similar boat this
whole time. There is no local access number here, so I always have to
call long distance. That is, until we got an Internet feed at work.
Now I connect to AOL via the network.

I wonder what it would take to make a similar connection from my Magic
Cap device through a local ISP to AOL.

It should not be that hard. I have played with this a bit, and I have somewhere
a program running on a PC that can accept an icoming call from the PIC1000 and
fool the device into thinking it has connected to a SprintNet number. After
that it starts sending AOL packets. I think the rest that needs to be done
is to open a TCP connection to AOL and route the incoming packets from the
modem to the TCP connection (and vice versa). Looks easy (but maybe there is
a hidden problem I cannot see at the moment).

Petr Vyhnak

PS: You'd need a PC with TCP/IP Internet connection and a modem. If you have
a dial-up access to the ISP you'd need two modems .....

magic-cap,
I'm sure some of you have now recieved the message from AT&T about the
patch which will hide all references PersonaLink in Magic Cap like
stamps, the building, etc. Being the pack-rat that I am, I'd hate to
hide all these things even if they are useless..

What I'd like is a patch that would change the graphic for the AT&T
building to an abandoned look. It could have boarded up windows and a
collapsing roof. Shouldn't every downtown have a slum section?

I believe it can only be played against the computer. There is a lot of
dragging (that's how you move). It's a nice game, but I think it cheats
(everytime I get a double, it follows with a double).

UUDecode complains about corrupted information when Steve's Mail Tools or
Magic Cap 1.5 format incoming message text option is enabled. If the
uuencoded text is reformatted, UUDecode cannot decode it. Make sure this
rule is off.

This raises a few questions.

1. What is the loss/gain of the above 'patch' in terms of precious
main memory?

2. Would we be better off resetting the device, therefore deleting all
changes to the ATT software rumored to save 30-40k, or is this built
into the patch?

 3. If we did #2 above, how could we get the patch?

4. Can the patch be obtained someplace later, and installed? I.e.
3.47 months from now I have to cold boot, and rest my device, I would
like to be able to install the patch then.

Thanks

Anthanasios,

Sorry, but there is no 2 player mode in Gammon (Reversi is the only game in
the Game Pack which has a two player mode).

Gammon does require dragging pieces around the board. It is less intensive
than Scramble since there is no timer. If you keep your screen clean, it
shouldn't cause scratching.

Gammon is available alone via Outfitter's Direct or in the Magic Bag Game
Pack (with 5 other SNTI games) from various sources. Check our web page
for more details.

Retrieving the information from the AT&T library (using Magic Cap 1.5)
returns an information note I am forwarding to this list. It claims the
patch is 11k and it does live in ram.

> 2. Would we be better off resetting the device, therefore deleting all

It is closer to 100k from my measurements.

They send you the patch. Upon downloading it it asks if you want to disable
PLS. IU said no so it packed itself up on my pc card shelf. I will attempt
to back it up with Magic Xchange.

Maybe sony, moto or GM could put it on their web site(s)?

I don't know who would donate 11k of ram(!) to hide something. Memory is
just too precious to waste in this way, in my opinion.

Oh, the card that returned the software from the AT&T Library (looked like
a neat new Magic Cap 1.5 feature that is doomed with PLS) returned a
Telecard with an interesting Telescript stamp I have never seen before.

Dear AT&T PersonaLink Subscribers,

As a result of our recent announcement to discontinue service,
customers have asked for the ability to remove references to "AT&T
PersonaLink Services" that currently exist in the Magic Cap Operating
System. The following information will assist you should you desire to
remove these references.

A software patch was created by General Magic which will hide all
references to AT&T PersonaLink Services, including the logo, building
and service features. The package size is 11K bytes and will be
installed into your RAM memory ( a portion of your device Main Memory
or Memory Card, depending on your device configuration).

After installation you will need to "unpack" this package in your
storeroom.

If you want to receive this patch simply tap "get software" and your
request will be sent to PersonaLink and the software delivered to your
mailbox.

NOTE: Removing the batteries from your communicator, and resetting your
device to its original state, will remove this software patch causing
AT&T PersonaLink Services to "reappear".

Sincerely,

AT&T PersonaLink Services

I have had 2 2mg SRAM cards since i got my 2000. No ptoblems. I try to
keep packages that DONT change, like uudecode, on one and things like
new items and Presto on the other.

It also allows me to do a FULL backup to my SRAM card, if MXChange
isnt avail...

I will need to install the new version (9) of the Magic Cap SDK very
soon now (coming from version 7).

Has anybody experienced any problems that I should be aware of.

Thanks in advance.
