General Magic Names New Chief Financial Officer

Zimmerman Brings More Than 25 Years of Corporate Experience

SUNNYVALE, Calif., 31 July 1996 -- General Magic, Inc. (Nasdaq:GMGC) today announced that it has named John Zimmerman as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Zimmerman comes to General Magic from Diva Communications, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. At General Magic, Zimmerman is responsible for the overall fiscal and administrative management of the Company. Functions reporting to him include finance, treasury, accounting, administration, investor relations, facilities and management information systems.

John Zimmerman has more than 25 years of financial, operations, and administrativeexperience with both large companies such as General Electric Company, Caterpillar Tractor Company, Intel Corporation, as well as start-ups such as Diva Communications, Level One Communications, and Integrated Circuit Works. At Intel he held a number of key positions including Controller for Semiconductor Manufacturing, Director of Finance and Administration for Intel Japan KK, and Controller for the Semiconductor Products Group. Zimmerman holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Ohio University and a master's degree in Business Administration from Xavier University, and is a graduate of General Electric's highly respected Financial Management Training Program.
